All jewellery, particularly jewellery worn on a daily basis, requires ongoing care and maintenance to ensure it remains in peak condition. Your jewellery should be kept away from harsh detergents and hard surfaces (even a diamond can be chipped by a hard knock along its grain), hence it is best to remove your jewellery when:

  • Undertaking heavy work with your hands, such as working out at the gym, heavy lifting and gardening;
  • Carrying out domestic chores, particularly when using chemicals such as chlorine and bleach which will affect your jewellery finish and lustre

DIAMONDS

Diamonds have an affinity to dirt and oil so keep away from moisturisers, oils and make-up.

Diamonds can cleaned easily and quickly at one of our boutiques, or at home with a soft toothbrush and a mild solution of 6 parts water and 1 part ammonia, or just some dishwashing detergent.

We recommend to bring in your jewellery once a year for an annual check, professional clean, polish and rhodium plate.

All white gold jewellery is rhodium plated to ensure a brilliant white finish. Rhodium plating will naturally wear over time, depending on the frequency of wear and other environmental factors. It should be replated once a year, which is a complimentary service at Rohan Jewellers for our pieces.

PEARLS

Do not let your pearls come into contact with hairspray, cosmetics, sun creams and perfumes as these contain chemicals that can damage the nacre. To clean your pearls, simply wipe them with a soft, damp cloth to remove excess oils and dirt. Although pearls can be worn every day, it is advisable not to swim, shower, sleep or play sport whilst wearing them.
It is required to get them restrung once a year or as soon as they are showing signs of looseness.

STORING YOUR JEWELLERY

When you are not wearing your jewellery, be sure to store it in a protective box or pouch, away from other jewellery to avoid unnecessary scratches.

If you have knocked or dropped your jewellery, and you have, or think you may have damaged it, do not continue to wear it. Please bring it to us as soon as possible so we can conduct a full safety check to ensure there is no damage.

Above all, please be mindful that you are wearing a piece of fine jewellery, handcrafted from natural materials. While some of these materials are hardwearing, your jewellery should be treated with absolute love and care.
